Order the opening size for your tombstone gable vent if the vent is going in the opening. All gable vents are manufactured 1/2 inch smaller than the measures ordered. This allows for an easy fit to the opening size.

If the vent is going outside the wall, order it at least 2 inches larger than the gable wall opening for fastening.

They are just as they are described except better looking than the pictures. Installation went without any problems. There was nothing to it. And the tools to install was only a drill. Removing the old vent was much more of a pain.

The people at Onyx Xteriors really understand what is needed on the jobsite. The vent wall is sturdy enough I can mount it any way I need and it did not flex on me trying to get it in.

ÿresearched bunch of companies before ordering my gable vents. Your company has actually put thought into your products. I received what I ordered maybe a little better. I hate when a website tells you one thing and sells you another. Onyx delivered what they said.

Basic specs for this gable vent.

size: 1/2 inch smaller than order size (order opening size)

Measure the tombstone gable vent wall opening for your order size as we will deduct 1/2 inch in height and 1/2 inch in width. This slightly smaller size ensures a good fitting gable vent. All aluminum products need a 1/4 inch of room around the product before meeting the wooden wall frame. This allows for expansion and contraction of the wood wall.

How to measure a gable vent?

The no flange has been the most common choice of installers for sliding into brick openings or gable openings where the look is to be recessed.

Once you slide the tombstone gable vent into the opening, it can be fastened in a number of ways determined by the vent installer. Then sealed off to prevent intruding water if necessary.

How to install a gable vent?

The screen on these gable vents is completely up to you.

vinyl screen: 1/8 inch vented protrusions in charcoal black vinyl screen

We only use a durable long lasting vinyl screen on our gable vents.

Good to keep out wasps and other flying pests.

aluminum screen: 1/8 inch vented holes in aluminum wire screen

We use durable aluminum screen, but it can still be vulnerably to oxidation.

Good for preventing the spreading of embers in fire hazardous locations.

1/2 inch wire mesh: 1/2 inch vented openings in wire mesh screen

Good for keeping out 4 legged pests.

There are no staples or wood frames used in these gable vents. We use an aluminum rail system to stabilize the louvers and make the gable vent impervious to rot and rust.

Stronger louvers have been an issue for some manufacturers. With our advanced technology for manufacturing stronger and longer lasting gable vents, we use a 4 fold louver in all our Signature Series gable vents.
